Tether is a stable coin, a form of cryptocurrency that aims to keep cryptocurrency prices consistent, as opposed to the large price swings seen in other prominent cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum. It became one of the first cryptocurrencies pegged to the US dollar. It is a blockchain-based cryptocurrency. The coins are backed up by fiat currencies kept in banks.
