International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC): Operations & Investments

The International Petroleum Investment Company is a subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company. Created in 1984, it is based in the United Arab Emirates, where it is responsible for the international investment operations of the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company.

Operational Procedure

The International Petroleum Investment Company is responsible for investment in hydrocarbon industries as well as other related fields.  Operating solely through investments in oil, oil products, crude oil, petrochemicals, natural gas and any other industry that involves the collection, refinement or use of hydrocarbons in any way, it invests heavily in many foreign petroleum producing companies.

Influential in the Industry

The International Petroleum Investment Company is not well known, but is a significant force in the petroleum international market. For example, the company is active in investments both in British Petroleum International as well as other international petroleum groups. 

Because of the operational procedures of IPIC, the company is able to be active in a wide range of petroleum markets simultaneously.  This company is diversified, because it is spread out across all hydrocarbon options. Since it is unlikely all of them will fail at the same time, this is a focused diversification.
