Latina Women on FIRE: Investing Strategies for Financial Freedom - Event Recap

  • At our recent Latina Women on FIRE event, we got a chance to hear from four Latina money experts on their best investing strategies—and the personal decisions that drive their pursuit of financial freedom. If you missed out or couldn’t attend, you can watch a recording of our free webinar.
  • Our guests at the event were moderator Jannese Torres-Rodriguez of the “Yo Quiero Dinero” podcast and several Latina money experts including Delyanne Barros, Vanessa Menchaca-Wachtmeister, and Rita-Soledad Fernández Paulino.

It’s no secret that women and people of color own a disproportionately small amount of wealth in the U.S. and make far less money than white men.

But a particular group of Latinas says FIRE — an acronym for “financial independence, retire early” — can change that. Money experts and investors Delyanne Barros, Jannese Torres-Rodriguez, Vanessa Menchaca-Wachtmeister, and Rita-Soledad Fernández Paulino are paving the way for other Latinas and people of color by forging their own FIRE community and sharing wealth-building strategies to help uplift others.

For these women, achieving financial freedom means taking matters into their own hands. FIRE empowers them to escape the inequality and oppression they would otherwise be constrained by. They can simply say “no” to a system that makes them feel undervalued, to having to choose between being with family and making money, and to financially abusive relationships.

As the first people in their families to pursue financial independence, these women have dealt with unique challenges along the way. That clearly didn’t stop them — instead, they overcame those hurdles to reach their full potential.
