Texas Scholarships for Twins: Funding Your College Dreams

The financial burden of sending two children to college can be considerable for parents of twins. Luckily, organizations and schools offer scholarships to students with college-age siblings. Additional loan and grant money may also be available to parents of twins. Fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form and speak to a school financial-aid representative to determine eligibility for extra funding.

East Texas Baptist University

When siblings are enrolled at the same time at East Texas Baptist University, you can apply for this scholarship opportunity. The scholarship pays an annual award of $1,100 as of spring 2008. Both twins must attend the college full time and remain in good academic standing.

Texas Twin RoundUp

This annual Houston event, held in June, sponsors contests and scholarship awards to participants. Boy/boy and girl/girl twins along with boy/girl twins are invited to register for the different contests. Contest themes include most-alike-looking twins and least-alike-looking twins. Monetary awards that can be used toward college are given. Preregistration is required to participate in the event. Twins do not need to reside in Texas to be eligible for the event, and money can be used toward tuition at any national college or university. Specific awards amounts are announced at the contest based on attendance.

National Organization of Mothers of Twins Clubs

This national organization has a chapter in each state. The state sponsors scholarship awards that honor both twins and parents of twins. Preschool, high school and college student scholarships are given to award recipients. To be eligible for the scholarship money, you or your parent must be a member of the organization. As of 2010, scholarship award amounts range from $250 to $1,500. Scholarships are awarded based on financial need, academic merit, letters of recommendation and personal essay responses.

Bette Ade Scholarship

The Texas Mothers of Multiples sponsors this annual scholarship program to members of the group and their children. Any nationally accredited university, college or trade school is eligible under the scholarship program. As of 2011, a child who is a multiple receives $1,000, while a parent of multiples is eligible for $500. You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and provide transcripts and a personal essay response to apply for the award.
