Advair is an inhaled asthma medication that combines two effective drugs; Salmeterol and Flovent into one inhaler. The Salmeterol (marketed commercially as Serevent) is a long acting bronchodilator that helps prevent bronchospasm, while the Flovent is a corticosteroid that suppresses the overactive immune response that triggers asthma attacks. The Advair inhaler is sold in different dosage amounts and is used in accordance with the prescribing doctor's instructions. Advair is an effective asthma medication, but it can be expensive. Fortunately, there are coupons available for free Advair the first time a prescription is filled and reduced-price prescriptions for up to a year.

Step 1

Go to www.Advair.com and select the Savings and Offers for ADVAIR button on the left side of the screen.

If this is your first prescription for Advair, prescribed either for asthma or for COPD, click on the appropriate button to print a coupon for a free 30-day supply of Advair. Note that there are some eligibility restrictions, primarily related to prohibiting you from submitting the prescription for reimbursement under any insurance program after you've received it free. This is a one-time-only coupon.

Step 3

If you are already taking Advair, click on the appropriate button to print a coupon for reduced-price Advair. This coupon covers up to $50 of your out-of-pocket cost for the product after you've paid the first $10, and does not prohibit using your insurance to pay what it will for the prescription. Thus, if your co-pay is between $10 and $60, you will pay $10; it the co-pay exceeds $60, you'll also be responsible for that excess. This reduced-price coupon can be used up to 12 times.

Tip

While generally mild, side effects of Advair include upper respiratory infections, sore throats, headaches, bronchitis, nausea, muscle pain, voice changes, menstrual changes, diarrhea, dizziness, and muscle spasms. There is some data on salmeterol that suggests it may increase the risk of death during an asthma attack so the risks and benefits of using Advair should be weighed with your care provider.

Warning

Advair does not treat acute asthma attacks, it prevents them. Should you experience an acute asthma attack use bronchodilator asthma medication like Proventil or ProAir or seek medical attention.

Advair must be used regularly for optimal results. Do not suddenly discontinue Advair without a doctor's supervision as the corticosteroid component may result in steroid dependency that can cause withdrawal symptoms if Advair is abruptly discontinued.
