Open a PayPal Account in Mexico: A Step-by-Step Guide

Paypal is a service which helps to protect your information because it provides secure transactions for sending and receiving money. Many merchants and consumers prefer using Paypal because you can send money without disclosing your bank account information to the person you're sending the money to. Paypal is widely used on eBay as well. If you live if Mexico and you want to open up a Paypal account, there are certain steps you need to take.

Step 1

Gather your information, such as your address, driver's license and bank account information.

Go to paypal.com to sign up for an account. Once you are on the Paypal website, you will need to click on the link at the top of the page which says "Sign Up." Once you click on this link, you will be directed to another page which will give you the option of three different types of Paypal accounts. If you are a consumer just looking to buy online, you will only need to sign up for a personal account. If you would like to buy and sell online, you will need to select the premier account. If you have your very own online business, you will need to select a business account.

Step 3

Select your country. After you decide which type of Paypal account to sign up for, you will then be directed to another page. Here you will be asked to select the country that you live in such as Mexico. You will then be required to enter all your personal information into the computer, such as your name, home address, email address, phone number and bank account information. You will also be asked to select a password needed to log in to your account. You will be asked to read the user agreement, so be sure to click on the box which says you have read it. After you enter this information into the system, you will need to click "Sign Up" at the bottom of the screen.

Step 4

Confirm your email address. After you have completed the sign up process, you will then be asked to confirm your email address. Log in to your email account and open up the email from Paypal that says confirm your account. Open this email and click on the link that says activate your account. You will then be taken directly to a screen where you will need to enter the password that you chose earlier. Then click "Continue." Write down your log in information.

Step 5

Activate your phone number. After you confirm your email address, you will then see a button on the screen which says activate your phone. Click on this link and enter your phone number. You will see a pin code on the screen, so be sure to write that down. Click on the button that says "Call Me Now." An automated system will call you right away. Pick up the phone and enter the pin code that you just wrote down.

Step 6

After you have confirmed your email address and activated your phone number, the next step is to activate your bank account so that you can start using your Paypal account. Paypal will make two small deposits in to your back account within the next few days which are typically under 10 cents. Over the next few days, continue to check your back account for these deposits. Once you receive your deposits, write the amounts down on a piece of paper. The next step is to log in to your Paypal account using your log in information and click on the button at the top of the screen which says "Bank Accounts." You will then be redirected to another screen where you will be asked to enter in the amounts of the deposits that were recently made in your account and click on continue. After you do this, your account will be activated and ready to use.

Tip

Paypal will never ask you to provide your bank information via email. Always report any suspicious emails to [email protected].

After you have memorized your log in information, be sure to shred the paper with your information written on it.
