Unlock the Secrets: A Guide to Opening Combination Locks

A combination lock is a type of lock commonly used to secure lockers and safes that have multiple digit codes that must be entered precisely in a specific sequence to open. Standard combination locks have codes that consist of three numbers that must be entered by manipulating a dial on the front of the lock.
Step 1
Hold the lock so the numbered dial is facing you. The lock should have an arrow or some other indicator at the 12 o'clock position pointing to a certain number on the dial.
Step 2
Turn the dial three times to the right (clockwise) and then stop turning when the arrow is pointing to the first number of the combination.
Step 3
Turn the dial to the left (counterclockwise) one full turn until you are back on the first number and then continue turning to the left until you reach the second number of the combination.
Step 4
Upon reaching the second number, turn the dial to the right until the arrow is pointing to the third number of the combination.
Step 5
Hold the body of the lock in one hand and the curved metal bar or shackle in the other and pull the two apart to open the lock.
Step 6
Push the shackle down into the hole on the body of the lock to close the lock.
Tip
Consider writing your lock's combination down and storing it in a safe place in case you forget the combination. Spin the dial of the lock after opening it so others cannot check the dial to figure out the final number of your combination.
