Understanding Forex Trading: A Beginner's Guide to Global Markets
FOREX trading is not a particularly easy investment tool; you should really know what you are doing before you begin. The FOREX market is the largest trading market in the world. There is no central location for trading FOREX because the entire market is traded online. Over two trillion dollars per day pass through the FOREX market. Here are a few things that you will need to know about the FOREX market if you are considering getting involved.
How it Works
With the FOREX market concept is simple. When you make a transaction, you are basically trading one currency against the other. Whenever you buy a currency pair, you are actually buying one currency and selling the other. With FOREX, you only have a few currency pairs to pick from. You are not given an endless list of companies to choose from like you are with the stock market. You have limited options, which actually makes it easier to specialize. You can learn about a few currency pairs and consistently make money instead of constantly learning about new companies.
Brokers
In order to start trading FOREX, you will need to find a broker that you can trade with. There are hundreds of FOREX brokers out there and you need to research them before you select one. You will want to make sure that the broker you choose is reputable and has been in business for a while. Also, be sure they are regulated by an outside agency. Finding a good broker could be the difference between success and failure.
Demo Trading
Once you select a broker, you will want to download a demo trading platform first. Every broker has the ability to allow you to set up a demo account before you go live with them. A demo account will provide you with "play money" to trade the markets with. You can trade in real time just like you would be able to with a real account. This will allow you to perfect your strategy before using real money. Keep in mind that you need to be profitable over an extended period of time with your demo account before you start trading with real money.
There are a number of FOREX trading platforms out there that will allow you to trade the markets. Most brokers have their own trading platform that only their clients can use. There is also a very popular trading platform that is available with many brokers called Metatrader. Metatrader provides many types of charting and indicators that make it easier to analyze the markets. Regardless of what platform you trade on, make sure that you feel comfortable with it before you place a trade.
