Checking for recalls can save you quite a bit of money on your auto repair bill. If you are having trouble with your car, try researching the recalls for your make and model first. 

Usually, a mechanic will tell you which part is malfunctioning and how much it is going to cost for you to replace it. In some cases, you can get lucky and find that the manufacturer is actually recalling that particular part because of malfunctions. If this is the case, you will be able to get the part and labor to replace it for free directly from the manufacturer.

In order to check for recalls, you can visit the National Highway Transportation Administration Office of Defects Investigation website. They keep a thorough database of all of the different recalls that are currently in effect across the country. By visiting their website, you can select the company, the make, the model, the year to determine if your car has any recalls associated with it. Then, you can contact the manufacturer and schedule an appointment. More and more manufacturers are having recalls so it is a good idea to get into the practice of researching first.
