ATM Check Deposit: A Simple Guide for Convenient Banking

Depositing a check at an ATM is a quick, easy and safe process. ATM deposits are useful when you don't have photo identification to present to a teller or cannot remember your checking account number. The steps are similar to making a withdrawal but can only be done at an ATM affiliated with the bank with which you have an account.

Step 1

Endorse your check by signing your name on the signature line on the back.

Step 2

Place your check inside of a deposit envelope, if required. You might need to fill out a deposit slip, which is usually placed near the envelopes. As an added precaution, write your name, account number and check amount on the outside of the envelope. Some banks, like Bank of America, allow you to deposit cash and checks directly into the ATM without using an envelope.

Step 3

Insert your debit card into the ATM and follow the onscreen instructions to access your account. When prompted, select the option to make a deposit. Enter the check amount if instructed to do so, such as $125.50

Step 4

Slide the check (or the envelope containing the check) into the deposit slot. Take your transaction receipt and wait for your debit card when the process is complete.
