Travel Insurance After Booking: Can You Still Get Coverage?
You can purchase travel insurance at any point, even after you have purchased your ticket or left for your trip. However, the policy may cover fewer claims or fewer days when purchased retroactively. For example, it may take several days for your policy to become effective. If you are planning on flying within those few days, you would not gain the benefit of coverage until after your flight. As long as you buy your ticket well in advance of your actual trip, however, there can be advantages to buying first and insuring second. Once you have purchased your trip, you will be able to give the insurance company more details about the coverage you need.
